Furnish The Homeless
Beginning
In frustruation over the unlawful littering of furniture throughout UCLA's university apartments, students Sam Asanad, Kian Asanad, and Amir Hakimi founded the organization “Furnish the Homeless” in September 2012 to clean up the streets of Westwood while simultaneously providing furniture free of cost to previously homeless individuals in transitional housing programs.
Today
Through organized drives, Team Furnish collects students' unwanted furniture before being left on the streets and delivers them directly to clients' temporary residences. In its first year, UCLA's Furnish the Homeless fully furnished twelve residences, donated over thirty items of furniture to the Los Angeles Mission, and became a distinguished organization on campus and throughout the Los Angeles community.
Future
Furnish the Homeless is currently in the process of becoming a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, while expanding to various universities throughout the country. As a team, our mission is to improve the living conditions and quality of life of individuals transitioning back into society from homelessness, while minimizing illegal dumping in Los Angeles residential areas.
